Beginning Tapestry

An everlasting vision of the ever-changing view
A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold
— Carole King

I was lucky enough to get to participate in our Beginning Tapestry workshop. I was even luckier in the fact that during the workshop I got to bring one of my own designs, “cartoon” in Wendy terms, to life. This workshop gave me and even deeper appreciation for the art of tapestry. My best way to describe tapestry weaving is that it is a labor of love.

Day one was a lesson in warping, bobbin loading, and an abundance of new weaving terms (some of which I think I am still using wrong, haha, but that’s why this workshop comes with a book, Thank you Wendy!).

By day two I was wiser. I started the day off with a fuller belly, cup of coffee (extra in a travel mug near by), full water bottle, and my tiger balm within reach. Day two also brought…colors! I have found that the joy of seeing your colors blend and compliment each other is what keeps you going. Looking forward to each part of your cartoon jumping off the page onto your warp with the amazing texture of wool is what keeps you there without realizing that hours have passed.

I know I am just a beginner but I do believe I have caught the tapestry bug and already find myself thinking of what I can’t wait to try next time.
